Amused Group

Product Design Director
Full Time / April 2021 — Current
Amused operate within the wagering & iGaming sector both in Australia and abroad. I joined the companies tech-arm (Black Stream) who specialise in end-to-end product creation in the SaaS space.

My role was (and is) to build out the design function within that wider tech team. Responsible for personal hiring, design team structures, product structures, processes and methodologies. Post the initial effort to establish a design team (comprised of researchers, animators/prototypers, UX, UI & design managers), we have been able to settle into a consistency that has allowed us to be efficient whilst maintaining quality.

After another brief stint freelancing I shuffled off to Sportsbet for a couple of years, initially as an Art Director I lead a handful of digital and social campaigns.

CHE Proximity +

Contracts / August 2014 — September 2015
During my career I have spent some time contracting at various studios and agencies, these include Emote Digital, CHE Proximity, Fox Sports Pulse, Spike Creative & Whyfor.

Wilson Everard Advertising

Designer / Art Director
Full Time / August 2012 — August 2014
I accepted a role as Art Director/Designer at Wilson Everard Advertising, an above the line agency branching into the digital space. Working alongside the four Creative Directors, my position involved a hands on approach to Art Direction. My role was to bridge the gap between the traditional and digital teams within the agency.

PARCA (Arkade)

Digital Designer
Full Time / June 2009 — December 2011
Mid 2009, I joined PARCA Advertising as a (young) Senior Designer, because there was no other. This position gave me the opportunity to work with a number of renowned Australian and international brands and I was responsible for producing, directing and designing both digital and traditional advertising campaigns, direct mail-outs (old school), email marketing, social media campaigns and a few websites.
Design
I have always been a designer and have leant towards digital since the beginning of my career. Tech, usability, and aesthetics brought together for the people.

Figuring out how to make something complex feel simple is my kind of fun. I’m all about creating smooth, user-friendly experiences that work.
Leadership
I am hands on and prefer to lead by example.

The best leaders work with their people. Refine and develop skills from technical to personal. Teach method. Most importantly, there's always something new to learn.
Software (Hint of Process)
Personally for design, pattern libraries, systems and prototyping, I use Figma. FigJam for Brainstorming, ideation & mapping. Illustrator for vector. Photoshop won't leave me alone and I am handy with video editing (After Effects and Premiere).

For comms, whatever you like. I prefer face to face though.

I am familiar with Confluence and JIRA (& Trello), Notion and Monday, but not very concerned with documentation software.

AI is an interesting one, I’m messing around with Firefly & Midjourney for image generation but not a huge call for it just yet.

And finally for analytics it’s mostly GA but I am starting to dig into Amplitude.
Personal
I am very passionate about design and will talk your ears off about it. I tend to settle nicely into new groups but really... I live for a yarn, preferably 10% bullshit. I have a dry, self deprecative sense of humour.

Cricket, the Saints, a beer, my PlayStation, the NY Rangers (weird quirk), my kids and my wife. Is that in order?
